Icons of Jesus Christ
CHRIST PANTOCRATOR 1
Christ Pantocrator means the Omnipotent Master. This is one of the main iconographic archetypes, originating from the Byzantine Empire. Christ is giving his blessing with his right hand, his left hand holding the Gospel. The colour of his robes symbolises both his Divine and human nature. The four letters appearing on the nimbus express the following meaning I am that I am (The Book Of Exodus 3:14). This inscription highlights the unity of the Son and the Father.
Egg tempera on wood, sized 25 cm x 30 cm.
