SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST 3
Saint John the Evangelist was the youngest disciple of Christ. He lived a very long time. According to some sources, he reached the age of 120. He was called by Jesus at the Lake of Gennesaret while he was fixing the fishing nests. Earlier on, he was taught by John the Baptist, who ordered him (as he had ordered Saint Andrew) to follow Jesus. Together with Saint Peter and Saint Jacob, Saint John accompanied Christ on his way to the Mount of Tabor, where he witnessed the Transfiguration. He was also present during the prayer in Gethsemane. At the scene of the Crucifixion, he was presented next to the Virgin Mary, whom he took with him and cared for after the death of the Saviour. When living in exile on the Isle of Patmos, Saint John had experienced a vision, which he later described in the Book of Revelation. According to the Gospel, Saint John was the disciple whom Jesus was fond of.
